When building the house of your dreams, you’re bound to do some research. Your roofing research will lead you to consider trusses, which you may not know very much about. So, what is the unexplored advantages of trusses?
We sat down around the boardroom table to write down these four tips we don’t often get to share.
Let’s Get Personal
Even though you’re here already, we always strongly suggest that you research several truss manufacturers. Once you’ve made your final selection, you need to be ready to ask some of the tough questions, for example:
“What’s the largest project you’ve completed, and what’s the address?”
Understanding the scope a truss manufacturer can achieve will give you an idea if they’re up to your task. If you’re feeling like pushing it further, maybe ask what their smallest project was.
If they’re willing to share the details of the scope of their operational abilities it can also help you gauge their experience level. The more different types of jobs they’ve finished competently may give you a good idea of how well they would be able to complete your job. While this isn’t always a perfect indicator – as quantity doesn’t equal quality – it’s a good starting point.
Always Be In Contact
As with any relationship, you need to keep channels of communication open. Don’t feel shy to drop a WhatsApp to the truss team, maybe invite them to be a part of the building team at the early stages of the project. After all, they can contribute knowledge and know-how to the job.
Also, it’s always a good idea to keep them in the loop if any measurements or parts of the job change. While building a home is a heavily planned operation, if there’s one truth to the building industry, snags occur, and new solutions need to be found quickly.
Create The Dream Team
If you want your home build to be a success story, create a dynamic team. Make sure that all the contractors have easy access to one another and can confirm details with each other as a team. Like anything in life, projects are completed on time and more efficiently as a team!
While it may seem silly, creating a WhatsApp group or an email thread is always the best way to streamline team communication.
Always – Always – Sweat The Details
Details matter. No matter how small they may be, an error early on will only compound the problem. This is especially relevant when it comes time to erect your trusses. Make sure you always have a tape measure when visiting the job site with the blueprints in hand.
Then, if any changes need to be made, make sure to catch them early on. Otherwise, the issue will only get worse.
If you’re worried that this might be a little overwhelming, just remember to stick with the first tip and get the right people on board.
